How do I pay?

The cars are priced in US dollars ($) and payment is required in the form of a cashiers cheque or bank draft.

Can I part exchange my old car?

Regrettably, we are unable to offer part exchange against the US tax free vehicles.

How do I qualify?

US Military members, including DOD civilians holding an active duty ID card and stationed in the UK (or outside the USA.) may qualify for the US Military Sales program.

US citizens with a home address in the USA (and US social security number) may qualify for the European Delivery program. UK citizens moving to the USA to work may also qualify for this program.

How many can I have and for how long?

U.S. Military members are entitled to one tax-free vehicle (two for a married couple) at any one time. There is no minimum amount of time the car must remain in the U.K., and a direct States delivery can be offered. Your BMW may remain in the UK indefinitely provided the car has a light modification and passes the U.K. Department of Transport SVA inspection.

For military members with less than 12 months remaining in the UK your car can be registered without the requirement for the SVA inspection. U.S. citizens must take first delivery of the car either in the U.K. or in Munich Germany. There is no minimum amount of time the car has to remain in Europe but it must be shipped within 6 months.

How long will I have to wait?

It very much depends on whether you want a car built to your own specification (not withstanding country specific options) in which case we usually build a car and deliver within four to five months.

There is always a possibility that the right car might be found in your country (US), which will speed up the delivery time. Occasionally, a new model may prove difficult to deliver within the normal parameters due to strong demand so should you be contemplating a new model please allow more time.

How will the car be delivered to me?

For US military members your car will be delivered to you from the Mildenhall showroom. The car will have been registered in the UK (and the light modification done, if required) and be ready to drive away. Cars delivered through the European Delivery Program will be delivered at the Mildenhall showroom, registered under the personal export program, and ready to drive away. What are the payment terms?

An initial deposit is required with full payment in US dollars ($) required at least one week prior to delivery of your car to you in the UK.

Would I have tax free status?

Tax free status is only available to diplomatic or military personnel.

How can I be sure of buying the right car?

You will be buying your car directly from BMW even if you are dealing with your local people. We are aware of what will be required for the conditions of your posting and the car will be built for the specific market.

Can family members take advantage of the scheme?

Married US Military personnel are allowed two cars per annum.

Can I buy a BMW Motorcycle using this scheme?

Regrettably there is no program specifically for motorcycles although our BMW Park Lane London office may be able to assist with a tax-free purchase.

For those customers who need a quick delivery we have the facility to look for unsold cars from stock. Whilst we may not be able to find your exact first choice, we can usually offer many close alternatives.
